Tosca - The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
The
new season at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden is off to a blistering
start with a revival of Franco Zeffirelli's classic production of Puccini's
Tosca. The show opens with a stunning cast, led by grand diva Catherine
Malfitano on breathtaking form as Tosca - her Vissi d'arte moved
me to tears, Anthony Michaels-Moore singing a formidable Scarpia, and
the world's leading romantic tenor, Roberto Alagna, making a wonderful
debut in the role of Cavaradossi. Alagna delivers everything you could
possibly ask of a tenor - his phrasing is impeccably musical, his control
absolute and he never backs down on the big notes. That's why the public
adore him. The production runs in three bursts through to February with
each cast as illustrious as the next. Look out for Maria Guleghina singing
Tosca in October and Bryn Terfel singing Scarpia in February. Click here
