FAQs and Assistance

We have tried to make the process of receiving our webcasts as simple as possible. However, the very nature of the medium means that a certain level of technical know-how is required. We have done our best to answer as many questions as possible here. If you are still experiencing problems and if, after thoroughly searching through our FAQ, you are unable to locate a solution or answer, send an email to host@operadio.com and we'll do our best to get back to you quickly.

Currently, we support the operating systems Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT4 with both the OperadiO 'Lite' Player and the downloadable OperadiO Player version109. With the Apple Mac also supported through our on-site OperadiO 'Lite' Player, however our downloadable OperadiO Player version109 does not support Mac format. You can access a sample channel of our music from the sample button on our web site or from the http://www.broadcast.com/radio/classical/operadio/ web site.

and when prompted, save the file to disk (we suggest saving it on your desktop). When the download is compete, you must close all windows and you will find a file on your desktop called rec-setup.exe - double click on this and it will take you through the Realplayer 8 Basic installation process.

Next you need our OperadiO player. At this point, depending on which platform and operating system you are using, you have a choice as to which player you use.

If you are using Windoows 95,98,2000, NT4 or an Apple Mac operating system you can use the button towards the top right of the page to start the OperadiO 'Lite' Player.

Some other problems you may encounter:-

Constant Interruptions In The Music

If the sound keeps breaking up, try setting the maximum streaming rates and bandwidth in the Realplayer 8 Basic to a 28k modem. You find this under View/Preferences/Connection.

Unable To Connect To A Particular Channel

Each channel is a separate stream. A problem with one channel will not necessarily affect others. Just keep trying and the chances are the channel will come back in a short time.

FAQ

Q: I click the button to download the OperadiO Premium Player from the web site and it asks me if I want to ‘Run it from its current location’ or ‘Save the file to disk’. What’s that all about?

A: The file you are downloading is a ‘self extracting archive’ file that contains an installation program. You must save the file to a known location on your hard drive (your desktop could be a good location as this way it’s easy to find again).

Q: It keeps telling me I need the Realplayer 8 Basic, but I’m sure I already have a Real Player installed. Why is this happening?

A: OperadiO needs the Realplayer 8 Basic to operate. Earlier versions of Real Player do not support this kind of ‘live’ streaming. The download is free from www.real.com. You can choose the type of download you require from the basic set to the complete suite of Real streaming media software. There is even an enhanced version you can buy. The minimum download is all you actually need to get OperadiO, but it’s up to you.

Q: OK, so I’ve downloaded the files; oplayer109.exe (the OperadiO Premium Player) and the RealPlayer 8 Basic(rec-setup.exe). What do I do with them?

A: Easy! Just double click on them and they will install on you computer. During install, it may offer you various options. If you are unsure what to do, just accept the default value offered – you should be ok with this.

When the two programs are installed, you’ll find a new icon on your desktop – the OperadiO icon. To listen to OperadiO, just double click on this.

Note: You only need to download and install the OperadiO Premium Player. If you are listening to the OperadiO Channels with the OperadiO 'Lite' Player you will only need to install the Real Player 8 Basic or G2 as the 'Lite' Player is only launchable from the OperadiO website and requires no extra download.

Q: The player has loaded and connects me to my ISP ok, but I hear no music.

A: When the OperadiO player connects, it gets its channel info from our server and this may cause a few seconds delay. It will say ‘CONTACTING SERVER’ in the info window. Once connected, you will get a list of available channels in the channel buttons on the player (the arrows top and bottom allow you to scroll through the channels on offer). Just click on a channel button and in a few seconds you’ll be listening to wonderful music.

Q: I get no sound when choosing a channel. Is there something else?

A: You may be attempting to connect to us from behind a firewall. If this is the case, you need to contact your Systems Administrator to get your RealAudio proxy settings.

Q: No, I'm not behind a firewall - I use a regular Internet Service Provider and still I get no sound. Could it be something on my computer that’s not right?

A: If you are not behind a firewall and still can’t hear anything you may need to adjust the volume for your wave files. Open the volume control panel from the speaker in the systems bar in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. You will need to double click on the speaker in order to open the full panel. Raise the volume of the wave files and make sure that ‘mute’ is unchecked.

Q: Could there be a problem with the RealPlayer 8 Basic?

A: Try uninstalling the Realplayer 8 Basic using Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs and then reinstall it. This may fix the problem.

Q: I am getting poor sound quality/reception, i.e. the sound keeps stopping and starting. Why does this happen?

A: Frequent pauses during broadcasting usually result from a network problem: heavy Internet traffic, a complex routing path between you and OperadiO, a poorly performing network hub. If you are using the OperadiO Premium Player you can improve this problem by opening the Options menu and setting the Normal Bandwidth setting to 28k modem. If this doesn’t improve matters then contact your ISP or system administrator.

Q: When I run another application while listening to OperadiO, the sound becomes very ‘choppy’ i.e. stops and starts very rapidly. What’s happening?

A: If you are experiencing choppy sound when using other applications on your computer, this is due to the fact that streaming audio requires a large amount of processor capacity and system resources. This may result in performance degradations to either your audio stream or your concurrently running applications.
