While the musical has its roots in Europe - in operetta and in opera before that - the modern musical was born and bred in America. Not just music and words, but dance and drama and comedy and spectacle, bawdy gags and exquisite emotions, the grit of slang and the grace of poetry. Here on the Broadway Channel you'll find the greatest musicals ever written - Show Boat, Porgy and Bess, Oklahoma, Kiss Me Kate, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, West Side Story… - the list goes on and on. Here the temperature rises! Our Romantic Channel is the home of Grand Opera. You'll find composers such as Verdi, Puccini, Massenet, Gounod and Wagner. The orchestrations are big and rich and the singers are charged with passion. Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras, Corelli, Callas, Tebaldi, Gobbi, Merrill, Christoff and Ghiaurov - you'll find them all here - plus many more!

The Performance Channel

Would you like to hear Pavarotti, Domingo, Alagna, Terfel, Bartoli, Fleming and Gheorghiu singing their party pieces? Here's where you'll find them! You'll hear everything from Kurt Weill and Rogers and Hammerstein to Bernstein and Gershwin to Schubert and Brahms to Puccini and Verdi. This is the home of the great artists on the concert and recital platform.

The Orchestral Channel

Here at OperadiO.com we're mostly dedicated to the human voice. However, there are instrumental sections in all operas - Intermezzos, Prologues and Overtures, all of which you can hear on our other channels. We've extended that 'instrumental' theme here on the Orchestral Channel. It's absolutely what it says it is - you'll find no voices here! But you'll discover the greatest orchestral works ever written by the greatest composers. This channel encompasses all periods - from Baroque to the early 20th Century. You'll find concerti here too. So, for instance, as well as Rachmaninov's Symphony No.2, you'll also find his Piano Concerto No.2...and No.3. As well as Tchaikovsky's Symphonies, you'll find his great Violin Concerto. And all these works played by the top musicians in the top orchestras in the world.

The Oratorio Channel

At the service of religion some of the greatest composers in history have provided us with some of the most beautiful music ever written. On the Oratorio Channel you'll find the father of all composers - Johann Sebastian Bach. He's joined by members of his family - C.P.E. and J.C. as well as Mozart, Handel, Faure, Mendelssohn, Brahms - the list is enormous!! This music is not just relaxing and ethereal, it's charged with drama too. Enjoy!

The Interview Channel

The Bel Canto Channel

Meaning simply 'beautiful singing', this is a title which really applies to more or less all our channels here at OperadiO.com! But here you can specifically listen to the music of the composers from the Bel Canto period plus a little more. We've included Mozart too - so you'll find scenes and arias from The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte (to name but three) as well as the works of the great Italian composers, Donizetti, Bellini and Rossini.

The Baroque Channel

Baroque music is incredibly popular and extremely pleasing to listen too. We enlisted the assistance of the distinguished conductor Trevor Pinnock while compiling the playlist for this channel and we've extended our time scale to encompass music from earlier periods still. Here you'll discover the music of such composers at Monteverdi, Corelli, Albinoni, Bach, Handel and the young Mozart.

The Back to Bach Channel

“The immortal God of harmony” – the words of Beethoven describing Bach in a letter to Christoph Breitkopf in 1801. In our Back to Bach Channel we mark the 250th Anniversary of the death of Johann Sebastian Bach by presenting his greatest compositions from the breadth of his repertoire – including the Brandenburg Concerti, Violin Sonatas and Partitas, Cello Suites, Goldberg Variations, the two mighty Passions, St. John and St. Matthew, his B Minor Mass, Cantata 140, “Wachet auf” – and many, many more, performed by such artists as The Münchner Bach-Orchester, Karl Richter, Yo-Yo Ma, Glenn Gould, Rosalyn Tureck, Jascha Heifetz, Philippe Herreweghe, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Janet Baker, Andreas Scholl and Ian Bostridge. Join us in our celebration and listen in wonder to the music of J.S. Bach, the father of all composers.

The Archive Channel

The Archive channel is our gem. This is where you can hear the great singers of the Golden Era. You can hear the legendary voices of Caruso, Gigli and Schipa - the 3 tenors of their day. Ruffo, De Luca, Battistini, Ponselle, Tetrazzini, Flagstad, Pinza and Kipnis. These were the greatest singers in the world during the first half of this century. They were the pioneers in the recording of the human voice - the first to be committed to record. The world was a very different place when these singers plied their trade. Listen to their art - one which many argue is now dead! - here on the Archive Channel.
